Jonathan Nguyen
Digital Strategist
Ogilvy PR Australia

I’m a digital strategist in Ogilvy’s 360 Digital Influence group in Sydney. My career in ‘digital’ started some time in 2000 when I was the Sydney based Commerce One guy for Concert Global Networks. It turns out that although my digital skills were sound, my timing was not.

Luckily my love affair with all things digital started long before the Internet as we know it, on 2400 baud modems, BBS’s, and FIDONet which meant I was a certifiable geek. Hence qualifying me to work in the IT industry for the remainder of decade in both large departments and small startups.

In this time I discovered a core strength of mine was the ability to communicate highly complex concepts to everyone from the mail room to the boardroom. It was at this point that I joined Howorth (an Ogilvy PR company) to extend this skill and work with some of the largest brands in the tech business, including Microsoft, Intel and Hitachi Data Systems.

With all the activity around Web 2.0, though, I could not wait to get back to the interwebz. Now I work with some of the biggest brands engage with their customers and stakeholders like humans. The market’s thirst for social media has meant that I have been able to develop some great campaigns from long term community building programs to digital issues and crisis management.

I am responsible for social media training for Asia Pacific within Ogilvy for all things search (search engine copywriting, search engine optimization) as well as social media training for our clients. In my time in 360 DI I have been privileged enough to work with some of the greatest brands including IBM, Intel, Ford and The Ted Prize.
